Jamboree, a nonprofit affordable housing developer, in partnership with the City and County of San Bernardino, will transform a vacant lot located at 5th Street W and N Meridian Avenue into 106 units of affordable workforce housing. This development will create high-quality affordable apartments with onsite programming and services for working families in San Bernardino. In addition, 22 of the apartments will be set aside for Transitional Age Youth (TAY), individuals aged 18 to 25 who are transitioning out of foster care and/or at-risk of homelessness.
Jamboree’s commitment to community engagement
Jamboree is committed to being a good neighbor. Establishing relationships with the neighborhoods we build in leads to developments that are an asset to the entire community. As part of our commitment, Jamboree is holding public outreach meetings where the community can offer feedback, ask questions, and share their concerns. Partnering for good
In its commitment to expanding affordable housing opportunities, the City of San Bernardino designated this city-owned vacant site as surplus land and selected Jamboree as its development partner. Together, the City and Jamboree are transforming the approximately 3.8-acre property into a high-quality affordable apartment community that will provide 106 San Bernardino working families in the Sixth Ward with a safe, stable place to call home.
When complete, the community will offer a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment homes for San Bernardino working families earning less than 70% of the area median income, or approximately $23,520 to $84,630, depending on income level and household size. These homes will be affordable to many of the city’s essential workers, including childcare providers, retail employees, restaurant cooks, housekeeping staff, nursing assistants, and pharmacy aides.
One of the most pressing issues faced by these young adults (ages 18-25) is housing instability, a problem that can disrupt their educational pursuits and make it challenging to commit to career development. Without a stable and secure living environment, the foundations of their future success are shaky at best. This new apartment community will have 22 apartments reserved for TAY residents earning less than 30% of the area median income, providing safe, stable housing with onsite services, guidance, and resources that can empower them, build stability, and reach their full potential.
Thoughtfully designed onsite amenities and services
The apartment community is designed specifically with working families in mind. The development will include a pool and outdoor BBQ area, tot lot, community room and kitchen, and offices for resident services. These community spaces offer residents onsite access to recreation, connection, and relaxation.
Onsite resident services will provide programming and support to ensure residents' long-term health, stability, and well-being. At each Jamboree property, a services plan is crafted to meet the unique needs of every resident. Activities such as homework assistance, tutoring, health and wellness workshops, practical life skills, and workforce development classes, will be provided at no cost to residents.
Good Neighbor Policy
As a community developer, Jamboree has a long-term interest in the neighborhoods where our communities are located and will operate the building for at least 55 years. Jamboree is committed to strengthening the community as a whole and enacts a "Good Neighbor Policy" at each of our apartment communities.
Trained onsite staff, including a live-in property manager, maintain the property and create meaningful connections with neighbors. Additionally, onsite staff ensure that residents abide by "house rules" and Jamboree's commitment to being a good neighbor.
If neighbors need to get in touch with staff, contact information for property management will be displayed on the property's webpage. It will be updated on this page once it is available. They can also email outreach@jamboreehousing.com
